What this world most needs is people showing up for every day life being their true and best selves, doing the things that make them come truly alive. Yes, this world needs you truly alive, doing the things you were created to do. Your family needs you alive like this. Your life is desperate for you to show up and do these things and live like this. And when you’re living anything short of truly alive, giving your true and best self, you feel unfulfilled. You feel empty. You feel bored. You’re left wanting and searching for something more.
If you feel a tinge of unfulfilled longing wondering if there’s more to life, this could be a sign you’re not living fully alive doing the very things you were created to do.
Romans 12:5 (MSG) “Let’s just go ahead and be what we were made to be, without enviously or pridefully comparing ourselves with each other, or trying to be something we aren’t.”
What were you made to be? What did the creator have in mind when he made the one and only you? On the journey to discover and living your life’s purpose, you must first discover YOU. Who are you? If you don’t know YOU, how will you ever know your specific purpose?
Have you been so busy trying to get through life that you failed to realize the shoe of purpose you’ve been trying to wear doesn’t fit you? Oh what misery it is to wear a shoe that’s too small for you. And how awkward and clumsy we are in shoes too big for us. But a shoe that fits … ahhhhh yes, Cinderella, it feels so good. And so it is with your life purpose. It’s not a one size fits all. You must first know YOU so you know what fits you.
You were created for a purpose. The definition of purpose is the reason for which you were created. You didn’t come off an assembly line. You weren’t mass produced. You are a hand crafted, one of a kind masterpiece and within you are special gifts and talents that make you the perfect gal to fulfill a specific purpose. Does anyone else hear Liem Nieson in Taken saying “But what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you.”
Girl I’m here to tell you that what you do have is a very particular set of skills. Skills that make you the ideal girl to fill your specific purpose in life. Skills, gifts, talents and passions given to you by a creator with a great big beautiful plan which you fit so perfectly. Who you are today is a result of your life experiences, and none of it is being wasted. Without God it’s all just a series of random unfortunate events, with a few disasters and a few beautiful messes along the way, where nothing makes sense. But with God, it’s all part of a great big design to equip you for your life’s work. Preparing you to become YOU.
Each of us have a different design with a different purpose. We weren’t made to be the same. All this time you’ve been trying to fit in when you were made to stand out. You can spend your entire life searching for your big purpose, but what you must remember is it begins with WHO YOU ARE.
Romans 12: 6-8 “In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.”
Do you see that list? It’s a list of things you likely dismiss so quickly as unimportant, but God felt it was so important that he specifically included it in his word. Encouraging is a gift. Giving is a gift. Leading is a gift. Being kind is a gift. Serving is a gift. Teaching is a gift.
So God has given us different gifts and talents for doing certain things really well. AND MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT … you weren’t left out. You weren’t skipped over and somehow missed when God was passing out these abilities. What he has given you, he expects you to use it with faith, use it well, take it seriously, and do it gladly.
I have a friend who is honestly just a really good mom. Wow how she shepherds her children. As she has taken her gifting seriously and used it with faith, she now has over 50 children and run the 99+1 Mission house we partner with! And she thought she was just good at raising kids? God saw serious potential in that!
I have a friend who is truly just so generous. She would literally give you the shirt off her back. When she started using her gifting of generosity, God started filling her cup so full she couldn’t keep up. The gifts she has been able to give in just the first 37 days of this year are beyond anything she could have possibly imagined. And she just thought she was generous and always taken advantage of before. God knew better!
I have a friend who is a grammar Nazi. She can sniff out a typo or misplaced comma a mile away. Guess how she is now using her special gift? She’s helping edit the ‘Holy Peptalk’ BIG Life Devotional you will have in your hands this year!
I’m just a girl who is a cheerleader at heart who could pep talk a rock. When I got serious about using my pep and my words, God got serious about using me to speak to YOU.
What are you good at? GOD WANTS IT!
Don’t tell me you’re not good at anything. What a cheap shot to your creator. I’m not buying that crap and you shouldn’t either. Stop playing little in your own life. When you belittle yourself, you’re not only diminishing your value and worth, you’re cheating your entire world of what you are here to give. Stop that. You are a masterpiece because you were made by the master. When the master made you, he made you by design with a purpose.
If you were making a coffee cup, you would give it a specific design. Qualities making it perfect for holding your coffee. You can examine the qualities of an object and determine what it was designed for. If the object is sharp and has a handle, you know it was made to hold and cut. If it has a lid, it was made to contain. If it has a cord, it was made to plug in and turn on.
By design, we too are created for a purpose. Your purpose can be found in WHO YOU ARE.
You’re not born into your purpose. You’re born into the person that will GROW into your purpose. It’s all a journey of growth bringing you to your purpose and it begins with who you are and using what you’ve been given.
Do you empathize with people? Do you have the patience of a saint or are you a cut the crap, tell it like it is person … both are gifts, don’t miss that. Are you good with numbers or good with creating fun? Are you organized or are you Creative? Are you Strong or are you Sensitive?
I encourage you to start asking yourself what you’re good at and what life has brought you through. How were you designed and could it all be for a purpose? The enemy will try to tell you this is foolish. He’s been telling you your whole life that you’re nothing special and the gifts and talents you have are insignificant. Oh yes he has … and Satan is a liar from Hell. Refuse to listen to his nonsense today. Honor your creator by honoring his creation.
Rise up and claim the gifts and talents God has given you. Rise up and declare what you are good at. Rise up and boldly use the growth you have experienced. What is your design and who were you created to be? No more playing little in this BIG Life. Let’s show up boldly for this day of life and be exactly what we were made to be!
Today, be aware of the gifts you have been given, and start using them intentionally as part of your purpose.
