Welcome to what many have predetermined as one tough week. The seemingly negative factors are stacked up 3 high for this week of living.

One: We woke up sleepy this morning because the clocks changed and we’re forced to get up an hour earlier than our normal routine.

Two: We have a full moon coming this week, and we all know people be acting crazy on the full moon.

Three: Friday is the unluckiest of all days, Friday the 13th.

Whew, ya’ll according to Facebook and popular beliefs, we have one heck of a week ahead of us! And it could be. It could be unusually hard if that’s what you’re looking for. It could be extra chaotic and hectic if you believe that as your truth. It could be unlucky if unlucky is your predetermined perspective.

But, you know what my God tells me … he tells me I am not powerless in my life. He tells me in Matthew 7:7 “seek and ye shall find”. Meaning, whatever I’m looking for, I will surely see it. Whatever I have my mind set on, I will find it. Whatever my perspective is, I will experience it.

Romans 12:2 says “Do not copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

There are a whole lot of people who woke up dreading this day and dreading this week. Don’t copy their behavior. Don’t fall into the trap of seeking negative, and therefore experiencing the negative. Let God transform you into a new person, and that happens with changing the way you think.

So, let’s apply this transforming power to our reality today.

1. Reality, daylight savings time just began. Reality, what was formerly 4 am is now 5 am, so my alarm rang in the pitch dark of the night. How about yours? We likely feel extra sleepy and drag butty today because while the clock says it’s an hour later, our body still says it’s not. We’re out of our routine and most of us really covet that precious final hour of sleep.

And what do we do about it?
We complain. We fill our thoughts and our conversations with how hard it was to wake up this morning, how unfortunate this time change business is and how negatively it affects our lives during this adjustment.

But girl, wait a dang minute … have we forgotten what this means? We’re looking at this wrong. This is a glorious gift. This time change means we’re preparing to welcome a new season of warmth! Spring forward means you can now look forward to Spring! All winter we’ve complained about the cold, now here we are at the first signs of a new season ahead and we’re complaining?

OH NO YOU DIDN’T. It may be a customary behavior, but don’t you be copying that. God wants you to be the person who leads the way with different thoughts.

Sure we may wake up an hour earlier, but doesn’t that mean we get to be fully ALIVE an extra hour? Doesn’t that mean we can accomplish more? Doesn’t that mean we get to see more of what God has prepared for us today? And doesn’t that also mean the sun will be setting an hour later as well? Doesn’t that mean we get more daylight, more time to enjoy the evening before it’s declared night?

Oh my gosh, this is actually a gift totally worth waking up for! This is my favorite time, why would I ever complain about it?

And here’s the awesome thing, when God transforms us into a new person by changing the way we think, we begin to experience things we were once missing out on. We won’t spend a precious minute of our lives complaining about something we can’t change anyway. The time changed, we will find every last benefit of this new time and we will dwell in goodness.

Plain and simple, seek good, find good. I’m thrilled to get to wake up an hour earlier and experience more living today, what a gift!

2. Full moon. Yes, that’s happening today. We blame bizarre behavior on a full moon. People be acting crazy with that full moon.

Now think about it, the human body is about 60% water. The moon greatly impacts the waters in the ocean tide, so of course it would make sense the moon would potentially impact the masses of water that are human bodies. The full moon creates the most extreme tidal changes, making a greater low tide and high tide both. And within that is extreme goodness.

Those extreme low tides reveal the treasures of tidal pools where sea creatures live and right before your eyes you see live starfish and sea urchins.

That extreme high tide brings the best part of the ocean to full affect … the sound. There’s no greater sound in my opinion, than the sound of ocean waves. That full moon brings an even higher tide, with even louder sound.

So, here’s my perspective, if the full moon can bring a positive effect on the water in the ocean on both extremes of low and high, why couldn’t it have the same positive effect on the human body made up of water? Isn’t it all in our perspective? Isn’t it all in what we’re seeking, and therefore what we’re finding?

Yes, it’s said people act crazy on the full moon, but did you know that crazy can be channeled as creativity? Your mind is at it’s most heightened state of creativity during this time. Much like the pull of the moon can create the extreme low tide which reveals the treasures of the tide pools, it can also create a pull which reveals the great treasures of our own creativity. Now is a beautiful time to dream and write. Now is the perfect time to start that project!

It’s also said that the full moon creates an energy within our bodies that lowers our anxiety. We can naturally feel more at ease, peace and calm today. Well, that’s awesome.

My great grandmother was likely much like your great grandmother, she knew how to grow things. Her garden was filled with vegetables and her house was filled with green plants. She used the Farmer’s Almanac to guide her in the best time to plant and the best time to cut a new start. The Farmer’s Almanac was a calendar of the moon patterns. I remember as a teenager asking her for a start of one of her beautiful plants, and she told me to come back the next week when the moon was right. The moon created opportunities for new starts and growth.

Did you know the full moon is believed to have the same effect on our bodies? This is the time for new starts and growth. And even more importantly, this is the best time to quit bad habits. Today is the perfect day for letting go of anything that doesn’t fully align with who God created you to be.

3. Now this one is mind boggling. Did you know the day of the week you are already looking forward to is considered the most unlucky day? Yes, Friday is generally classified as the worst day of the week. But we don’t see it that way, now do we? We consider Friday to be the happiest day, the mark of the end of the work week and the weekend ahead. But that’s not what tradition says. Hmmmmm, we quickly overcame that one didn’t we?

And 13 was believed to be an unlucky number. So, when paired with an unlucky day, Friday the 13th was believed to be the double whammy of bad luck.

But we already love Fridays, so we’re halfway there.

I present to you one simple reason to love the #13.

1 Corinthians 13:13 “Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.”

Now, do you realize what we’re doing here girls? We are changing the naturally negative thing we have believed about losing an hour of sleep, the full moon and a seemingly unlucky number, and we’re doing exactly what Paul told us in 2 Corinthians 10:5 “we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

We take captive those thoughts that do not serve us. We don’t let negative thoughts and superstition run rampant in our minds. No, we arrest them. We ask them where they came from and what their intent is. We take them captive. And we force them to be obedient to Christ. We make them get in alignment with the truth.

The truth that an extra hour of being awake is an extra hour of getting to experience life.
The truth that the full moon brings beauty and creativity.
The truth that the 13th is a reminder of the greatest of all these things, love.
