Isaiah 40:12 MSG – “Who has scooped up the ocean in his two hands, or measured the sky between his thumb and little finger?”

I’m currently on a 6 week cross country trip, savoring some of God’s wide open, vast creation and stunning beauty. In fact right now, as you listen, I’m off grid in a log cabin by a waterfall, among the towering red wood forest. It’s all so huge. So overwhelming. So individually beautiful and part of God’s imagination and creation. Seeing all this beauty my husband said “wow, if this is the warm up creation, I can’t imagine what Heaven is going to be like!” Even better than this?

Our world is so beautiful, and so incredibly big. I’m still trying to see more of it and understand how big the God who created it all is. But wow, the part of his creation we can’t see is even bigger. There’s so much more of this world that we have never seen. My mind can’t even grasp how big God’s creation is. This beautiful ball of green and blue which we live on is just a speck of sand compared to the universe we live in. If you have 3 minutes today, go to YouTube and watch the video titled “Mind Blowing, the Earth Compared to the Rest of the Universe” https://youtu.be/ncvKB1grf3g And understand this mind blowlingly huge universe is what is being referred to in today’s scripture when it says God measured the sky between his thumb and little finger.

Stretch out your hand right now and look at it. Look at the distance between your outstretched thumb and little finger. When God stretches out his hand like that, it measures the entire world. And he holds it all in the palm of his hand.

Why is this important to us today? OUR GOD IS BIG. Don’t forget that. He is big and he is powerful. He is bigger than any problem you may be facing. What is your personal “impossible” in your world right now? It seems big and overwhelming to you doesn’t it? Big problems are NOTHING to our BIG God.

We’ve put God in a little box and minimized him. He is uncontainable. His palms are big enough to hold the entire world. God is BIG. Say that with me – God is BIG.

He’s bigger than my problems. He’s bigger than my worries.

We know that God is omnipresent, meaning he is everywhere at all times. Well of course he is. Once you understand how big his hands are, you understand he really is right here with you at this moment and he’s right here with me too because God is BIG. Sometimes when I understand just how BIG my God is, it makes him seem untouchable, unapproachable and impersonal.

But this great big God who is all knowing and all powerful takes his care for us to a unbelievable individual level. Luke 12:7 reminds us “the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are of great worth to God.”

Sister, you are of great worth to God. He knows exactly how many hairs are on your head at this moment. They’re not only counted, but they’re numbered. And there’s a difference there. Counted means he knows how many but numbered takes it even further. Numbered means God knows exactly where each hair is. If the creator of the universe would take person interest in not only knowing how many hairs are on your head, but also knowing exactly where each hair belongs, don’t you understand he cares about every detail of your life? He is concerned about that which concerns you. Nothing escapes his notice. Don’t you know he SEES YOU TODAY. He sees you and oh how he loves you.

So what does this mean to you today? If the God who’s hand is so big he can hold the entire world in his palm, has numbered your hairs, this means you have no need to worry. The God you love and serve is BIG. BIGGER than your troubles. BIGGER than that which worries you. And he loves you wildly. He cares about every detail of your life. His eye is on you. He’s got you.

Find peace in that today. He’s got you. His great big hands are holding you and his loving eyes are watching over you.
