It’s hard to see this valley you’re in right now as a blessing. It’s hard to embrace this hardship as goodness. It’s hard to see potential victory in this battle. But, Sis, you have not seen what God has seen on the other side of this valley. You have not yet even dared to imagine the goodness he has planned. This battle will result in victory, but that victory will be out of your hands.

If the victory will be out of your hands, where will it be? It will be in your worship.

If the battle is too big for you, this battle belongs to the Lord. If there’s nothing you can do here, you’re standing on holy ground where God will do the impossible. If defeat seems to be the only realistic outcome in this valley, there’s one thing you must do to receive your blessing and step into victory.

WORSHIP.

Yes, right here, where all your mind has been able to do is run through worst case scenarios in a circle of panic. Here, where everything seems stacked against you and there’s absolutely no way through this or out of this. Here, where it has all fallen apart. Here, where darkness has surrounded you and you can’t seem to find you way out of it. This is your place of worship.

Worship will turn your valley of brokenness into a valley of blessings. Worship will turn your breakdown into a breakthrough. Worship will turn your vice into a victory. Worship will turn your hardship into a hallelujah.

Is there anything you can do about this? Is this out of your hands and over your head? Is this bigger than you and beyond your reach? You are being called to worship here.

Yes, girl, this is how you fight your battles. You worship.

Jehoshaphat was the King of Judah, and he was under attack. Not only one army was coming against him, but multiple armies. Kind of like you right now, under attack by multiple things all at once. I don’t know what you’ve got going on, but it might be your health and your finances at the same time. It might be your marriage and your job. It might be your past coming back to threaten you at the same time your future seems to be falling apart.

Multiple attacks from multiple enemies, all closing in. Is that how you feel right now? That was exactly what was happening to King Jehoshaphat. He was surrounded by enemies, and they were drawing in. There would be no winning this battle, it was impossible. 2 Chronicles 20:3 “Jehoshaphat was terrified by this news and begged the Lord for guidance.”

Well doesn’t that just describe you right now? Terrified by the news and begging the Lord for guidance. Well, did you come here today expecting to be guided, or did you come here expecting to wallow in how terrible this is? Be expectant for God to guide you now. Be expectant for him to speak directly to you and give you a battle plan to fight this.

But, don’t expect to understand the battle plan. Don’t expect for this to make absolutely any sense in your fight or flight brain. It won’t. This is on a spiritual level.

King Jehoshaphat was stuck in a valley facing multiple enemies he could not stop. He was outnumbered and overpowered. Yet, you have to know HE WON! You have to know at the end of the battle, we come to verse 24 and it says “Not a single one of the enemy had escaped.”

So, how did we go from being terrified and begging in verse 3, to every single enemy falling in verse 24? One simple thing, my friend. One thing brought them to victory, and it’s the same thing that will bring you to victory when the battle is bigger than you, it’s WORSHIP.

Let’s read the condensed story together from 2 Chronicles 20: 1-24:

“The armies of the Moabites, Ammonites, and some of the Meunites declared war on Jehoshaphat. Messengers came and told Jehoshaphat, “A vast army is marching against you from beyond the Dead Sea. They are already near.”

Jehoshaphat was terrified by this news and begged the Lord for guidance. He also ordered everyone in Judah to begin fasting. So people from all the towns of Judah came to Jerusalem to seek the Lord’s help.

Jehoshaphat stood before them and he prayed, “O Lord, you alone are God. You are powerful and mighty; no one can stand against you! We can cry out to you to save us, and you will hear us and rescue us. We are powerless against this mighty army that is about to attack us. We do not know what to do, but we are looking to you for help.”

The Spirit of the Lord came upon one of the men standing there. He said, “The battle is not yours, but God’s. Tomorrow, march out against them. But you will not even need to fight. Take your positions; then stand still and watch the Lord’s victory. He is with you. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out against them tomorrow, for the Lord is with you!”

Then King Jehoshaphat bowed low with his face to the ground. And all the people of Judah and Jerusalem did the same, worshiping the Lord. Then they stood to praise the Lord.

Early the next morning the army of Judah went out into the wilderness. On the way Jehoshaphat stopped and said, “Believe in the Lord your God, and you will be able to stand firm.”

The king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the Lord and praising him for his holy splendor. This is what they sang:

“Give thanks to the Lord;
his faithful love endures forever!”
At the very moment they began to sing and give praise, the Lord caused the enemy armies to start fighting among themselves. The armies turned against their allies and killed every one of them. After they had destroyed one army, they began attacking each other. So when the army of Judah arrived at the lookout point in the wilderness, all they saw were dead bodies lying on the ground as far as they could see. Not a single one of the enemy had escaped.

Worship won their battle, and worship is how you will win your battle too. When the battle is too big for you, then it belongs to the Lord. When it’s the Lord’s battle, you kneel down in worship, you stand up in worship, you walk in worship. You sing, and you praise the one who will fight this battle for you.

You and your family are up against a real enemy who has real demons attacking. Your worship confuses every single evil spirit and will cause them to fight against one another. Don’t you want the spirit that has come against your marriage to be confused into fighting the spirit that has come against your health? Don’t you want the demon who is targeting your family to get tangled up in battle with the demon who is targeting your dreams?

Confuse the heck out of every demon and spirit of the enemy, and create chaos in their battle plans with your worship! That’s what you do when you sing and praise God in the middle of the valley!

Verse 26 says the King and his men went out to the valley where all their enemies lay defeated, and they called it the Valley of Blessings. Yes, the valley where they were outnumbered and overpowered. The valley where they should have been overwhelmed and overtaken. This valley became their Valley of Blessings. And all they did was stand in the face of their enemies and worship God.

If the battle you’re facing is too big for you, then this battle belongs to the Lord. If you can’t do anything about it, he will. At the very moment you begin to sing and praise God in worship, every demon and evil spirit sent from the enemy to attack you will become confused and attack each other. They will wipe themselves out. Their defeat will be certain, and you will have victory here!

What did they sing? Scripture even tells us specifically:

“Give thanks to the Lord;
his faithful love endures forever!”
Now this makes me think of a song from 20 years ago that was clearly written in the face of a battle that couldn’t be won in any other way but worship. It’s called “You are Good”, by Israel Houghton and it goes like this:

Lord, You are Good
And your mercy endureth forever
Lord, You are good
And your mercy endureth forever
People from every nation and tongue
From generation to generation
We worship you
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
We worship you
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
We worship you for who you are
And You are Good
So about this valley you’re in and the battle you’re facing that is way bigger than you. Honey, I believe this battle belongs to the Lord, and you’ve been given your battle plan: Fast, pray, and worship! The song has even already been written. Press play and sing along! You’re standing in what will one day become your Valley of Blessings.
