Tapping into the guidance of the Holy Spirit is much like using the GPS in your car. The GPS knows precisely where you are, and where all other things are. However, for it to guide you to your destination, you have to make your request. GPS, I want to go to the TJ Maxx. GPS, I want to go to the closest coffee shop. Once you make your request, roads to take you to your destination are highlighted.

That’s a drastic simplification of the holy power of God’s Spirit dwelling within you, but it’s a pretty darn good picture. Within you is a divine guidance system. Your location is always known, as well as all possible paths around you. It’s literally awaiting your request for assistance. If you never ask, you never receive. Literally, isn’t that what Jesus said? Matthew 7:7, “Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find.”

If you don’t tell the GPS where you want to go, how is it ever supposed to get you there? If you don’t ask God for directions, honey, it’s no surprise you feel so lost.

James 4:2, “You do not have because you do not ask God.” Don’t let that be you! Maybe that’s been you in the past, but don’t let that be you again in 2024. The Holy Spirit is your guide and it knows all possible paths to get you to your destination. But, you do have to ask.

That’s what we’re doing together this week in our series leading up to our Goal Setting Broadcast. We’re asking. We’re asking very specific questions. We have 7 questions we’re asking God before we write goals for 2024. We’re seeking him and his guidance for our lives in this New Year.

In yesterday’s episode, we looked at questions 1 & 2. God, who did you create me to be – and – God, where am I living below my potential. Did you plug those questions in like a destination in your GPS to find the answers? Did you bring those questions to God and let him show you the answers? You have to actually seek him in this process. If you seek him, you will find him. Let him guide you in finding the answers. His answers will reveal your deepest goals for 2024.

Now, we’re ready for the next questions.

Question #3 to ask your Creator before you write your 2024 goals: God, what do you have available for me?

James 4:2, “You do not have because you do not ask God.” Now, verse 3, “When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives.”

What is it you want from God here? Are you wanting to just take what he has available and use it for your own fun, fame and glory? Are you looking to build his kingdom, or build your own kingdom? Really, why do you want what you want? That’s what God is interested in.

No doubt, God has everything. Literally everything. There’s nothing too big, too hard, out of reach, or impossible for our God. He could give me my very own exotic island and a jet plane to fly me there. The question is, who’s kingdom would that build? If I asked for my very own exotic island in the middle of turquoise waters, God would immediately respond with “okay, but why”? Oh he has it. He can give it, it’s all his, but he gives according to motive. Wrong motives bring hardship, chaos, stress and messes. God doesn’t want any of that for his girls, so as long as our motives are wrong, he lovingly says no.

Honey, get your motives right, and the whole world opens up to you. But isn’t it funny when you get your motives right, you no longer want the whole world?

So, with the right heart and intentions, we ask, God, what do YOU have available for me in 2024? What have you aligned for me to step into? What is right for me at this time? That’s what I want more than anything.

I used to use my prayer time as an opportunity to approach the throne and twist things the way I wanted them to go. I would make deals and plea bargains. Lord, if you give me this, I will do that. God, if you fix that, I will change this. I learned the hard way, if God’s not in it, I don’t want it! I don’t know why, but it seems that’s a lesson we only learn from personal experience. But just in case I can save anyone from a whole lot of frustration and chaos, I’m going to tell you, IF GOD’S NOT IN IT, SIS, YOU DON’T WANT IT!

What does God have available for you? Ask him! Plug that into the GPS and let the Holy Spirit supernaturally guide you to that destination! I promise it is better than anything you could have concocted on your own.

Is there anyone listening today that can attest to the freaking mess your own plan can create? Whew girl, that was a doozy wasn’t it?!!! We have a magical way of screwing things up on our own! Is there anyone listening today that is living proof of God’s plan being sweeter than your own plan? What he did for you is so much better than what you were trying to do. He surprised you with better than you ever dreamed of! Hot dang, that’s good living right there!

Lord, if you’re in it, we want it! I mean we want all of it! We are all-in for your anointed and appointed opportunities. But Lord, if you’re not in it, we don’t want it. Nope, we don’t even want to tip toe in the waters you haven’t called us to. Oh God, please keep us out. Don’t just shut the door, slam the door!

We’re looking for what you have available to us in this New Year. That’s our hearts’ desire. Holy Spirit, prompt us and reveal to us what is here for us to move forward in.

Questions #4 to ask your Creator before you write your 2024 goals: God, what truth do you want me to know?

James 1:5, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

You don’t have to spend another day being confused. The enemy doesn’t get to play his games in your head any longer. God generously gives wisdom to ANYONE who asks for it. God finds zero fault in a single soul asking for wisdom. Even those who are far from him. Even those who are totally wrong. If they ask God for wisdom, God generously gives to all of us.

Why? Because He knows the enemy uses lies to confuse us and distort our image of God. There are no qualifications to asking God for wisdom, you simply have to ask.

Godly wisdom is higher than, greater than, and more powerful than earthly wisdom. Godly wisdom is divine. Godly wisdom is supernatural. Godly wisdom calls things into existence that are not. Our wisdom simply can’t do that.

This is your opportunity to ask God for his wisdom. Seek him for truths where you have been confused. Allow his truths to flood your mind and change your thoughts.

Jesus said in John 8:32, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” God wants you to know the truth so you live in freedom. The enemy of your soul wants to keep you stuck in his lies so that you live in bondage. Sadly, many of us have settled for that life of habits and thought patterns that tell us we aren’t good enough, strong enough, or worthy of ever having a different life. So, we settle in the chains of untruth, and we are prisoners in our own minds. Why? Because we believe lies!

My sister, if you will dare to seek the truth, the truth will set you free from every single chain the enemy has placed on you.

God, what truth do you want me to know?

Does God want to reveal to you the truth about YOU? About how he sees you. About his great plans for your life. About your potential. About your future. About your past. Lord, what is your truth about me?

Does God want to reveal the truth about his providence in your life? Does he want to show you his intimate involvement in every detail concerning you? Does he want you to see that he is always with you and will never leave you? Does he want you to draw your confidence and strength from his continual close presence?

Does God want to reveal the truth about the person or the thing you’re most struggling with?

What truth is God speaking to you? Listen closely.

As you ask these questions, you are seeking the Holy Spirit for answers. He is faithful to guide you. Lean in. Trust him. Spend time with him. And spending time requires you MAKE time. Yes, make this time a priority today. If you don’t, the day will just pass and you will continue to wander through an existence that is less than what you were created for. Things will continue to feel blah, gray, and unimpressive. God has a full color, exciting, abundant life for you. SEEK IT!

We have 3 more questions to go, leading up to Saturday’s free live Goal Setting Broadcast. In tomorrow’s episode, I will tell you how to text me for direct links to the live broadcast and receive free goal sheets and text reminders before the event!
